The following tongue-in-cheek definition of a steam engine was presented by Heinz Ruehmann, one of Germany's most popular and best known actors, in the film "Feuerzangenbowle":

Wat isn Dampfmaschin? Da stelln wir uns mal janz dumm un sagen dat is'n große, runde, schwarze Raum. Un de große, runde, schwarze Raum hat zwei Löcher. Ein Loch da kömmt de Dampfe rein un dat andere Loch kriegen wer später. Wat tut nun de Dampf? De Dampf drückt nun ufn Kolben. Watn Kolben is, kann man nicht explizieren.
